AHG on MPEG-4 Part 9: Reference Hardware Description Phase 1 and 2

Mandate:

  1. To collect and coordinate contributions of MPEG-4 video modules described in HDL from Part 2 and Part 10.
  2. To continue the analysis of relevant HDL modules for HW acceleration of MPEG-4 part 10 (AVC ).
  3. To continue verifying the conformance of submitted HDL source code and associated documentation with the requirements stated in the updated "Call for Submission" document N4966.
  4. To evaluate the interfaces of each module so that the specification of common interfaces might enable modules submitted in phase 1 to be directly reused for phase 2.
  5. To complete the evaluation of tools suitable to support implementation of phase 2.
  6. To proceed with the definition of the MPEG-4 Virtual H/W-S/W Socket that interfaces the HDL modules to the MPEG-4 generically optimized reference S/W part 7.
  7. To specify the demonstrator architecture showing the usage of MPEG-4 Part 9 Reference hardware description in an example application.

  1. Define/Improve/Perform core experiments on Advanced Text and Graphic (ATG) on BIFS low complexity and assess the need of specific systems level functionality (i.e. for HTTP transport).
  2. Continue review of WD 2.0 of ISO/IEC 14496-11:2003/AMD 3 (Audio BIFS Extensions). Continue the verification and the validation tests to investigate the two proposed solutions for implementing Consumer Effects.
  3. Conduct the discussions on MPEG-4 Scene representation along with W3C and 3GPP in the area of streaming text.
  4. Assess whether or not there is a need for a new dimension for Profile for text functionality.
  5. Further study Lightweight Graphics Adaptation as described in M9827 and assess the need to standardize Embedded Target Graphics Architecture Object. Draw attention of the industry on that activity.
