AHG on MPEG-4 Part 9: Reference Hardware Description Phase 1 and 2

Mandate:

• To collect contributions of MPEG-4 modules described in HDL

• To determine relevant HDL modules for HW acceleration of MPEG-4 part 10 (AVC )

• To continue verifying the conformance of submitted HDL source code and associated documentation with the requirements stated in the updated "Call for Submission" document N4966,

• To evaluate the interfaces of each module so that the specification of common interfaces might enable modules submitted in phase 1 to be directly reused for Phase 2,

• To evaluate possible HW accelerator platforms to support the implementation of phase 2

• To coordinate the development and submission of new missing modules to prevent overlapping or duplications of submissions.

• To proceed with the definition of the MPEG-4 Virtual H/W-S/W Socket that interfaces the HDL modules to the MPEG-4 generically optimized reference S/W part 7.

4. Propose additions to MPEG-7.

5. If time permits, identify MPEG-7 metadata useful for studio production applications that does not exist in MXF DMS1.

Ad Hoc Group on MPEG-4 Scene Representation

Mandate:

1. Produce study text 14496-1:2000/FPDAM4 (AFX and Multi-users functionality).

2. Improve/Perform core experiments on Advanced Text and Graphic (ATG).

3. Evaluate answers to the CfP on font format representation and font compression technology.

4. Produce WD2.9 of ATG.

5. Complete cross-checking of existing streams, conduct the discussions on 14496-4. Produce conformant bitstream for the profile@levels included in ISO/IEC 14496-1 and check if they exercise all the functionality of the said profile@level.

6. Conduct the discussions on MPEG-4 Scene representation along with W3C and Web3D.

AHG on the Carriage of MPEG-4 Content

Mandate:

1. Finalize payloads format for the carriage of MPEG-4 content with IETF.

2. Develop carriage of AVC content over MPEG-2 Systems.

3. Improve the usage of AVC in MPEG-4 Systems architecture and propose contributions for the next MPEG meeting.

4. Analyse how the MPEG-4 framework can be used for the carriage of AVC over IP Networks.

5. Analyse how the MPEG-4 simple payload format can be used for the carriage of AVC over IP Networks.

6. Study how the test environment for bandwidth adaptive media streaming platforms or part of it can be used as reference software for 14496-8.

7. ESM :
- Produce a study of FlexMux extension and SL extensions in 14496-1/FPDAM4.
- Study and document misalignment between ESI and SL.

Mandate:

1. To refine the current IPMP specifications (study of 13818-1/FPDAM2);

2. Finalize the IPMPX/4 implementation reference software to Im1.

3. Develop an architecture reference software for IPMPX/2 MPEG-2 and verify that the MPEG-2 reference software can be used as a starting point.

4. Produce a WD 3.0 of IPMPX Conformance.

Mandate:

1. Finalize 14496-12 including any comments received at the final ballot.

2. Produce a study text of 14496-1/PDAM7 by 2002/08/05.

3. Further study WD 1.0 on MPEG-21 File Format and provide extensions if needed to meet all MPEG-21 requirements and solicit contributions on the topic.

4. Investigate if the ISO Base file format provides sufficient support for the carriage of static metadata.

5. Develop metadata expression to satisfy requirements from 3GPP and JPEG.

6. Produce WD2.0 of MPEG-21 File Format.
