REGISTRATION & REGISTRATION FEE

Attendees will be able to register for the meeting via the secured Online Registration Form at http://mpeg73.multimedia.edu.pl/registration.html starting May 11th, 2005.   On-site registration will begin on Saturday, July 23rd, 2005 and will continue throughout the meeting.

Registration fee of the meeting is 1550 PLN if paid by June 15, 2005 (early bird registration).  Attendees who register after this date (June 15, 2005) (regular registration) will be charged a cost of 1650 PLN. Online Registration Tool will be closed on July 20, 24:00 GMT. On site registration will involve a facility fee of 1750 PLN (paid in Polish złoty only).

TRAFFIC GUIDANCE

The location of Poznań-Ławica Airport is very favourable. It is situated about 6 km from the city centre, near the main road coming to the most important points of the city: the centre, the International Poznań Fair or the Main Railway station.

Train connections:

IC/EC trains to Warsaw (2h40m journey) and Berlin (3h journey).

EN (EuroNight) train to Cologne and Brussels. The main Railway Station in Poznań is situated just in front of the entrance to the International Fair Grounds where Conference Center is located.

From the Airport to the Conference Center:

We recommend taking a taxi - company 9191. A trip (about 6 km) to the Fair entrance should cost about 20 PLN (€4.80) during the weekdays, or about 23-25 PLN (€5.50-6.00) in the night and on Sunday.

WIRELESS LAN

During the meeting, in the Conference Center there will be an IEEE 802.11b wireless LAN with direct Internet access. For further information, you will be notified at the meeting venue. 

SOCIAL EVENT

Delegates and their accompanying persons are cordially invited to attend the social event which is a planned on the 27th of July (Wednesday). It will be organized in Rogalin, a village about 30 kilometers from Poznań. There is a palace complex, one of the greatest in Wielkopolska with gallery where you can admire many works of art of painters such as: Paul Delaroche, Claude Monet, Jan Matejko, Jacek Malczewski. In the museum in the palace building there are works of art of Bacciarelli, Canova and Thorwaldsen. The park of a total area of 37 ha consists of French, English and Landscape Park. There are a lot of grand trees that are remnants of the former forest including more than 1450 oaks, among them 950 under protection (the biggest cluster in Europe).The delegates will have a possibility to visit the gallery and also a coach-house. A nice walk in the park and the old valley of Warta River will help to have an appetite for some examples of traditional Polish (and not only) food that will be served on a recreational clearing accompanied by life music of flute and bassoon trio.

There will be lunches served from Sunday to Friday as well as some snacks and beverages during coffee breaks.

1)   VISA:

1. Any foreign visitor wishing to enter Poland should have a valid passport and a visa.

2. For citizens of European Union it is enough to have a valid ID card to enter Poland.

2)   Weather:

The climate in Poland is transient, of the mild warm zone. A characteristic feature of this kind of climate is that there are often changes of weather. July is the warmest month during the year and its average temperature ranges between 16-19°C (61-66F) with the maximum that may exceed 30°C (86F). There are possible showers. Some lighter and some warmer wardrobe parts are recommended as well as a raincoat or an umbrella.   

3)   Currency and Credit Cards:

The currency in Poland is złoty (zł, PLN). Although some places accept Euro, in general it is not possible to pay in Euro in shops or restaurants. It is quite easy and safe to exchange currency in many exchange offices located in main streets. Most of exchange offices accept Euro, American dollar, pound and Swiss franc. At the time of publishing this material the exchange rate is 1 euro = 4.16 złoty (zł, PLN), 1 USD = 3,24 złoty. You can check the current exchange rate at e.g.: http://www.xe.com/ucc.

Credit cards, including VISA and Master Card are accepted at major hotels, department stores and larger restaurants. 

4)   Business Hours:

Government offices are generally open between the hours of 08:00 and 16:00.

Banks’ business hours are usually from 08.00 or 09:00 to 17:00 or 18.00 on weekdays.

Major department stores are open from 08:00 to 21:00, including Sundays, but most shops are open from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 or 2 p.m.

5)   Tax:

Value-added tax (VAT) is levied on most goods and services at a standard rate of 22% and is included in the retail price. In tourist hotels, this 22% tax applies to rooms, meals and other services and is added into the bill.  

6)   Time:

The time in Poland is the same as in the whole Central Europe, i.e. GMT +1. In July summer daylight saving time adds 1 more hour.

7)   Electricity:

The electricity standard in Poland is 230 Volts AC, 50Hz. Standard European appliances do not need any adaptors. Always check the power supply before using your equipment. In Poland plug and socket Type E is used.
