Mandate:

To address the following issues pertaining to MPEG-7:

  1. Progress the integration with the XM with technologies described in the Audio CD according to the workplan N3804.
  2. Study the Low-level audio descriptors according to the workplan N3803.
  3. Study the Committee Draft of ISO-IEC 15938-4.
  4. Examine the following applications, including example instantiations, in order to evaluate the completeness of MPEG-7 Audio and the parts of the standard on which it relies:
    • Music databases (Melody, Timbre, and MediaInfo)
    • Sample databases (Timbre, SFX)
    • Soundtrack annotation (all, as appropriate, including Silence & AudioSegment)
  5. Conduct any other audio-related MPEG-7 business; and
  6. Promote MPEG-7 Audio to industry and within the audio research community

AHG on Audio, Video, and MDS Harmonization

Mandate:

  1. To address DDL integration issues concerning DSs and Ds within Audio, Video and MDS.

  2. To review the DDL representation of DSs and Ds based on the DDL representation guideline, and also to maintain the guideline.
  3. To explore better interface between Visual and MDS tools and to implement the specific use of visual tools using DDL.
  4. To define a formal MPEG URN allocation and resolution policy, and register the MPEG URN namespace.

  1. To continue the editing of MPEG-7 DDL Study of CD

  2. To refine the subset of XML Schema and the extensions necessary to satisfy MPEG-7 DDL requirements
  3. To release an MPEG-7 DDL parser based on any existing solution
  4. To resolve any DDL open issues. This includes:
    • To evaluate complexity of the available DDL tools,
    • To clarify the implications of a data inheritance mechanism in the context of the proposed "HeaderType" DSs,

To adress the following issue :

  1. UsePaddingFlag functionality.
  2. Improvements from the JP2000 spec including :
    • the file type and compatible specs list
    • movie fragments
  3. Restoring video width and height back into the headers.
  4. Clarify MP4 specification on atom order: For example, headers ought to be at the front of their enclosures.
  5. Allowing duration of last system streams (BIFS, OD’s, and MPEGJ) sample to be zero.
  6. Standardization of the RTP hint track format; moving from VM into a normative specification – various discussion items still need clarifying text or correction, and MPEG 2 hints should be revalidated
  7. Several potential bugs or at least sections need clarification in the MP4 specification have been alluded to that could usefully be fixed or improved, we need a detailed rollup or description as input to Singapore

AHG Describing User and User Environment characteristics for UMA

Mandate:

  1. Collect Requirements for Describing User and User Environment characteristics for Universal Multimedia Access.

  2. Collect information about existing description tools for user-terminal-network characteristics from relevant standardisation bodies.
  3. Determine if the existing description tools (outside MPEG) are sufficient to support UMA applications.
  4. If deficiencies exist, begin to study the technology that MPEG may wish to consider as a candidate for future standardisation.
  5. Recommend actions in the contexts of MPEG-7 and MPEG-21

AHG on MPEG-21 Outreach

Mandate:

  1. To identify relevant multimedia initiatives underway in other (non-MPEG) standards organisations;

  2. To identify an appropriate contact within these standards organisations;
  3. To evaluate the relevance of these efforts to MPEG-21;
  4. Where relevance is established (or suspected), to proactively invite these efforts to participate in MPEG-21 by responding to an MPEG-21 CfP and submitting comments on the PDTR
  5. Identify opportunities for MPEG-21 to work with other organisations to further the development of the multimedia framework. Make specific recommendations on how MPEG-21 should address these opportunities.
  6. To determine the viability of MPEG-21 participation in a Digital Media Standards Summit tentatively scheduled for October 2001 in New York City.
  7. To identify a coordinator/champion for MPEG-21 participation in the Digital Media Standards Summit (see item 6).
