FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS

HDTV'97

International Workshop on HDTV

(Montreux, Switzerland, 10-11 June 1997)

The Organising Committee is pleased to announce that the International Workshop on HDTV'97 will take place in Switzerland, Europe, from June 10 to June 11, 1997 at Montreux.

This places HDTV'97 as the introduction to the famous International Television Symposium and Technical Exhibition ITVS'97. ITVS'97 will have a Management Forum for senior technical and business executives. This Management Forum will address HDTV as one of the potential future services now made possible in a new international technological environment. HDTV'97 will offer a good technical platform prior to the ITVS'97 Management Forum meeting. ITVS'97 organises also a Future Technology Forum and a New Technology Exhibition.

In addition to giving participants the opportunity to join this prestigious symposium, the Montreux area (the Swiss Riviera) offers a large number of possibilities for visiting and entertainment for partners of participants and for pre/post workshop recreation.

HDTV'97 is being organised by the EBU and IAB with the support of Vision 1250. The workshop programme will include all aspects of HDTV. In addition to the more traditional subjects (signal processing, transmission, storage, production, hardware and VLSI design, consumer equipment, etc.), complementary aspects on "virtual presence" and compatibility with new film production techniques will be included.

The first Call for Papers is in preparation and participants in HDTV'96 will be included in the first mailing expected in November from the Program Chairman, Mr. George T. Waters of the European Broadcasting Union. Further information on the workshop arrangements may be obtained from Jean-Pierre Evain at the European Broadcasting Union Headquarters.

Possibility will be considered for a specific exhibition of HDTV equipment which may be transferred into the ITVS'97 e.g. New Technology Exhibition at the end of the workshop to benefit from the largest possible audience.

HDTV'97 will offer an excellent programme, an exciting venue and an ideal location. We look forward to seeing you there for the promotion of HDTV.

HTDV'97 - International Workshop on HDTV

10-11 June 1997, Montreux - Switzerland

FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS

The objective of the International Workshop on HDTV is to provide a forum for discussion on new technologies and their applications to future forms of advanced television systems. HDTV remains a target for those who believe that quality will be a saleable feature in the future. It also matches increasing needs for "virtual presence", looking for an higher consumer involvement in the use of the future entertainment and communication systems.

The world is changing rapidly. Virtual reality, stereoscopy, high definition and associated combinations are already extensively used by the entertainment industry to let people enjoy new experiences, and they like it. This is now part of our every-day life. We believe that 1997 will be an important year announcing dramatic changes in growing availability of advanced quality services.

The Workshop is organised in conjunction with ITVS'97, and will certainly benefit from the audience attracted by this conference recognised world-wide. Prospective authors are invited to submit papers for presentation at the International Workshop on HDTV'97 which will be held on 10-11 June 1997 in Montreux, Switzerland.

Conventional areas of interest to the HDTV Workshop have been extended to the domains indicated hereafter, bearing in mind that this list is not restrictive.
